Course 1 : Python for Geospatial Engineers and
Scientists
The objective of this 5-day course is to acquaint delegates with fundamental concepts of python. The course mainly targets geospatial scientists and engineers; but practitioners in other areas such as Economics and ICT are welcome. The course will be accomplished through presentation of a broad framework of programming principles ranging from client-side (desktop, web) to server side (HTTP, cgi-bin, web frameworks, database connectivity, web services).
Course dates: 27th to 31st Mar 2017
Course 2: Android part I and II (for Geospatial Engineers and Scientists)
Delegates will be taken through the theory and practice of Apps development using Android.The course mainly targets geospatial scientists and engineers; but practitioners in other areas such as Economics and ICT are welcome. They will be encouraged to develop solutions to solve real life problems using Android Apps. By the end of the two course(s), delegates will be able to write simple applications, use built-in widgets and components, work with the database to store data locally, sync data with cloud services, use background services and broadcasts, and much more.

Android Part I: Build and deploy Android applications, Understand the operation
of the application, application life-cycle, configuration files, intents, and
activities, Appreciate a better understanding of the UI - components, layouts,
event handling, and screen orientation, Develop a working knowledge of the
custom UI elements and positioning

Android Part II: Gain an in-depth understanding of broadcast receivers and services, Store data in a variety of formats and services: databases, cloud; Learn networking capabilities such as JAVA sockets, JAVA XML and JSON; Learn advanced UI concepts: Fragments, Conceptualize and develop a working application; Connect to and consume cloud services such as Google Maps.
Course Dates: 10th to 14th Apr 2017
Course 3: Introduction to Spatial Data and GIS Web Mapping
Course Details: This is a 2-week course divided into two sections: Week 1: an exploration of common spatial data formats (Shapefiles, XML/GML, Relational Databases, Spatial Database extenders, text and binary formats, GeoJSON, fusion tables, NoSQL datastores, Spatial data in the cloud, and others), projection systems, conversion between formats; and Week 2: an exploration of techniques in GIS Web Mapping (HTML, CSS and Javascript, Open Layers, OGC Standards (WMS, WFS, MCS, WMTS, MPS etc), styling maps, exchange maps on the Internet and the world-wide web). Delegate are free to attend the full two week course; or they can choose a part of it (for example week 1 or week 2).
